Functional Dry Needling (also known as IMS) utilizes a very thin needle inserted into tight muscle bands or trigger points.

The needle is typically only in the muscle for a few seconds. Often a twitch or cramp sensation in the muscle is felt during treatment.

Effects of treatment can include decreased muscle tension, improved blood flow, and reduction in pain.

It is normal to have muscle soreness in treatment areas after FDN, this typically will last a few hours to a couple days.

After treatment it is important to try and maintain gentle movement of the treatment areas ( continue with your physio exercises ) and stay hydrated. It is also normal to sometimes feel tired after FDN.

Dry Needling, in conjunction with other physical therapy modalities such as stretching, strengthening, and manual therapy can be a very beneficial treatment for individuals.

Be sure to thoroughly discuss your medical conditions, medications and questions with your physical therapist prior to this treatment so that you are well informed of the risks and benefits!
